Cute House

Interesting older Maine property owned by interesting writer Maureen. The two levels make it feel larger and more house-like. Also has a number of separate rooms - living, dining, kitchen, porch as well as the bedrooms. There was a nice touch with multiple gourmet treats waiting for me on the counter when I arrived. Thank you. Look forward to next time.--Hilary, September 2019

Wonderful Stay

We had a lovely week in this charming home. Maureen was helpful in getting us set up and very responsive. The house has a lot of history embedded in its walls and was ultra clean. We would stay again in a heartbeat!--Heidi, August 2019

Maureen was awesome!

The house was comfortable and a great location. —Vincent, July 2019

Perfect home base for seeing the area!!

Maureen was the most gracious hostess! She was there to answer any question and to even provide a little emergency coffee creamer! As far as the accommodations, everything was provided that you could possibly need! We were able to do laundry, cook when we wanted, relax in the evening with T.V., or just a book! Downtown Rockland was just a couple of blocks away with many restaurant choices, shops and a beautiful bay! We loved the old house and if stairs are not an issue, I definitely recommend this quiet, lovely place to everyone. —Linda, June 2019

Home away from home in Rockland

We enjoyed a great week in Rockland and want to thank our host, Maureen, for providing such a nice place to call home while we were there. We were very comfortable, with everything we needed in the house (the bottle of wine we found in the fridge was a lovely touch) and Prosehaven was perfectly situated for everything we wanted to do and see while in Maine. We were nearby many lighthouses, parks and small towns and were able to travel up and down many of the nearby peninsulas. Every late afternoon, a short ten-minute walk would get us into downtown Rockland. We would walk the boardwalk right on the harbor, as well as peruse the many shops and restaurants in town. We even spent a day at Acadia National Park - only 90 miles away. It was a wonderful week. — Nancy, September 2018

Peaceful

This is a nice place to read a book. I love these period houses anyway, I grew up in one so there is a familiarity about them. Quiet and comfortable with all the necessities, step out the door and it's a short walk to downtown where there is plenty of good everything from restaurants, museums coffee shops, bookstores and the harbor. In the summertime you could drive, but the closest parking spot could be the driveway your car is already parked in. Maureen was quick to make sure I was comfortable, then quick to ensure I had my privacy. If you want to instantly feel like you're part of a small town community, this neighborhood has that vibe. There is no bathroom downstairs so if you're disabled it might not work. Other than that I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Rockland. —Edward, August 2018

Great spot to navigate mid-coast ME. The house was sweet and quirky. But roomy and well appointed.

Great week in Rockland!! The place was just what we needed and perfect location to get in town in a jiffy. Our host was wonderful and accommodated all our needs easily. Would definitely consider these digs again. — Karen, July 2018

Wonderful location, so handy to everything that is great about Rockland!

Maureen made us feel at home and gave helpful information about this organized and well equipped house which made comings and goings a breeze. Guests should know that this 1804 house has narrow stairs and passages. This is a very affordable accommodation. — Laura, June 2018

Welcoming and warm. Homely and charming. Clean and professional. We were very comfortable and happy.

We are from Ireland and felt right at home there. The property is so close to town yet feels like a perfect quiet little getaway once back. Everything works and the property owner Maureen was so accommodating to all our needs. The only bad thing about the experience was having to leave the beautiful house at the end of our stay :) — Christopher, June 2018

Cozy, convenient get-away in Rockland

We spent a lovely weekend in Rockland in this great cottage. Maureen was a welcome and gracious host with lots of suggestions for our visit, and the cottage was convenient to all the downtown attractions. — Karen, October 2017

Great Spot !

We enjoyed our stay very much. ProseHaven offers spacious and comfortable accommodations, essentially a duplex format, with your own kitchen, dining/living, and (2)bed/bath space. Maureen was very courteous and helpful as host, offering dining and recreational recommendations, and very respectful of our privacy. It was an easy walk into resourceful Downtown Rockland, with the Farnsworth (Wyeth) Museum, good dining and shopping ! We loved our stay in mid-coast Maine ! We recommend it very highly ! — Davis, September 2017

Fabulous place to stay with a fabulous host!

A lovely house in an ideal location with the best host ever! Beautifully furnished, it is clean, comfortable, and ever so "New England." At Prose Haven, you are truly walking distance from the exquisite offerings of Rockland, ME, the Arts Capital of the Great State of Maine. World class galleries, museums, eateries, shops, and architecture-- my God, the architecture!-- is almost beyond belief in a town of 7,200 people. I sent a friend of mine a picture of Main Street, and he said, "That's not a town, that's a movie set!" Thank you Maureen, and Prose Haven, for the best Home Away I have ever had! — Alva, September 2017

Prosehaven was an amazing place to stay in Rockland.

The proprietor is the greatest and the property itself was charming and perfect for my needs, and probably yours. Quiet but close to town. Plenty of space both inside and on the outside patio. I would certainly stay again! — Alexander, August 2017

Prosehaven was the perfect place for me!

I recently spent two weeks at Prosehaven. It's wonderful! Just a short walk to town and its many restaurants, shops and even the Farnsworth Museum, not to mention its proximity to the water! Maureen was gracious, generous and accommodating, concerned with making sure I had everything I needed. I will be back the next time I come to Rockland. — Sybil, August 2017

We loved staying in Prosehaven. It’s roomy, has a lot of counter space in the kitchen, and has an outdoor area we used every day. It’s also in walking distance to all of downtown Rockland, including an easy walk to the Farnsworth or the Center for Maine Contemporary Art and your pick of restaurants. Maureen was very communicative and helpful; we loved all the books too! We had a great time staying here - Rockland has a lot going on, and is extremely convenient on days you want to get out of town.—Robert, September 2019

Maureen’s home is wonderful! So close to the quaint town of Rockland. A nice short walk to great coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries, bars, shops, and the water. Very peaceful and relaxing. You will not be disappointed with this location. Maureen is very quick to respond and gave us our privacy. I would highly recommend this home. —Victoria, July 2019

This beautiful space is a short walk from the main part of Rockland. l quite enjoyed the nightly walk to dinner. The space was nice. Despite that it had air conditioning, I found myself merely opening the windows and letting the cool ocean breeze help provide a sound night's sleep. The host communication is superb. I found this to be the best value in the area. I would definitely return. — Tyler, September 2018

The location is close to Rockland and within two hours of great sites to visit. The people are extremely friendly and helpful. — Jim, July 2018

Recommended - lovely place, neighborhood, and host! — Raymond, June 2018

I really enjoyed my week long stay at Prosehaven. The location is great, easy to get to downtown Rockland as well as surrounding areas. I liked too that the neighborhood is quiet and residential, I felt very secure there. Maureen provides lots of information to help you get acclimated to the area and is very welcoming while also giving you privacy. I found Prosehaven to be very clean and my bed was super comfy! If you love older homes with character and charm, you should consider this location. — Michelle, July 2017

Maureen exceeded my expectations in her communication prior to and during my stay. She provided helpful local tips (two examples: the Rockland Farmers’ Market on Thursdays and a Whole Foods Market situated on the way out of Portland). Thoughtful welcoming treats included fresh blueberries & yogurt in the fridge, fresh flowers, a bottle of wine and biscotti. The character home is clean, charming and airy, located a short walk from the Farnsworth Museum (a must) and Main Street. (In fact, it’s entirely possible to walk just about everywhere in Rockland, except the lighthouse/breakwater and the two James Beard Award winning restaurants.) There is a patio and barbecue for guest use and fresh herbs under the window. Maureen is a gracious host and really took care of everything and anything I needed. Clearly, the comfort and satisfaction of her guests is her top priority. Her enthusiasm for Maine is contagious! — Elizabeth, July 2016

Maureen was amazing in every aspect of making us feel welcome. We were driving through heavy traffic on our arrival day and got to the site much later than anticipated. She communicated the whole day with us and was outside in the rain to help us get in and get settled. She was available all week for advice and things to do and even did some laundry for us. The location was perfect, you could see the harbor from the house. — Richard, July 2016

Maureen was an excellent host. She was easy to communicate with, and we enjoyed meeting her and getting to know her. We had a really nice visit around her dining room table the evening we arrived. The beds were comfortable, and the living room cozy and warm. We didn’t do any cooking, but the kitchen is very serviceable, and Maureen provided coffee, tea, and hot chocolate along with milk (she’d even asked us our milk preference before we arrived). The apartment isn’t fancy, but was clean and spacious (although the bathroom is a bit cramped). We visit Rockland with some frequency, and will definitely try to rebook at Prosehaven when we come back. I want to hang out with Maureen some more! — Ellen, December 2015

Our stay at Prosehaven in a quiet Rockland neighborhood was delightful. The vintage guest apartment was clean, well-equipped, charming and superbly located to explore Rockland and mid-coast Maine. Maureen was a great help with suggestions for restaurants, museums, and other must see places. Her correspondence was always timely and all the details of our stay went smoothly. It was fun planning our trip with her help. The beds were super comfortable and we slept like rocks every night. — Kathy, August 2015

“Exceptional rental in house with history”

The rental portion of this Rockland ME property is entirely private and self-sufficient, it’s beautifully furnished, with a terrific kitchen, living room, two upstairs rooms with great light and bathroom with all you need. The amazing part is that the house is really old, 1803, I believe, and in terrific shape, with a new heating/cooling system, but actual horsehair under the plaster on some of the walls which makes it fascinating to speculate on life lived here in the past. Rockland itself has everything…sweet shops, excellent restaurants, two good museums, a lovel6y waterfront, places to swim, hike, kayak, take boat trips to islands. I’d love to return as soon as possible and highly recommend. — Barbara B November 2016

“Great location”
Great location in quiet neighborhood, within easy walking distance to all that downtown Rockland has to offer – good restaurants, art galleries, unique shops, the Farnsworth Museum, and ferries to the islands.
Private entry to the rental is like having your own apartment. Spacious, spotlessly clean, nicely furnished kitchen. — Rower, November 2015

“Simple and thoughtful accommodations”
Maureen was very accommodating as we unexpectedly needed a furnished rental off-season. Great location, central to everything the mid coast area has to offer. Clean, vintage home with rustic charm. Well stocked kitchen and wonderfully comfortable beds! Some of the best nights sleep I have had in a while. Grateful… — Allyson, December 2015
